This time, I'm back to english. Sometimes I also want to write in english, and now that the biggest women's tennis tournament ended I think it's a good time to do it again. Besides, some of the most read posts are written in english.
So, WTA Masters is finished. Petra Kvitova won YEC and will probably be considered as the Player Of The Year. However, the season is not ended yet; we still have a WTA tournament in Bali (where Ana Ivanovic will play, btw). I find it stupid and senseless; the Masters should be the last tournament of the year, which includes the 8 best players of the season. It's pointless having another tournament after it... But this is just me talking, a regular boy. Whoever does it must have strong reasons... or not.
Anyway, today Petra Kvitova defeated Victoria Azarenka 7-5 3-6 6-3 and won WTA Championships Istanbul 2011, the WTA Masters, and also 1 200 WTA points. With this result, the Wimbledon 2011 winner will move to the 2nd place just 115 points down Caroline Wozniacki, the top-ranked.
To be honest, I kinda hate Petra Kvitova. I hated her when she won Wimbledon - was rooting for Sharapova in the final - and since then I found her like an inconsistent player. However, I have to admit it; she's a great player. Her forehand is terrific, her game is very flexible... She can hit winners in any situation! Maybe she's really a future number one... Maybe too soon to predict it, but the blonde has potencial!
Azarenka is also a great player, though. One of my favourites; I expected her to win, and when she did that comeback in the first set - from 0-5 to 5 all - I really thought she could take the trophy... But then, she got broken and lost the set -.-
She chokes very often, but she has potencial. One day she'll win a Grand Slam.
About the other players, nothing much to say. Li Na continues playing like crap after French Open, Radwanska won a match - it's such an achievment for her going to Istambul -, Sam Stosur and Vera Zvonareva lost in the semi-finals, which was expectable. I'm happy for Sam reaching the semis for the 2nd time in a row, it's been two great years for her.
Last but not the least, Caroline Wozniacki and Maria Sharapova disappointed their fans. Well, Maria was injured but for a player who wanted to leave Istanbul as #1 her performance was awful (group stage)... And also Wozniacki, of course. She just won a match, against Radwanska; the number one has to play much better than that! After the third day, she was already flying home in Turkish Airlines...
Cheers,
Pedro Mendes
